At least 1 dead, several people injured as a severe climate hits Kentucky: Sheriff

At least one person is dead and several people have been injured since the severe climate swept Kentucky on Friday, authorities said.

The Washington County Sheriff’s office reported a mortality and multiple injuries, with “serious damage” throughout the county from a possible tornado.

“This is in the remote part of the County, so it was a small area coup, but it was devastating,” said Washington County Judge/Executive Tim Serious, during a news conference on Friday.

Seven people were injured, including four from a house, Washington County officials said. Their conditions were not known immediately.

On Friday a possible tornado was reported in Washington County, said Kentucky governor Andy Beshear social networksadding that the “severe climate level was unexpected.”

The county began to receive emergency calls from 7 am, according to Kevin Devine with the emergency management of Washington County.

Initially, three people, including a 3 -year -old boy, were reported as missing, although they have all been located, said Devine. The boy was transported to a local hospital, while the other two took to a hospital, he said.

Several houses were damaged, he said, noting that damage evaluations are still underway.

According to Devine, there is no tornado siren for that county area, although emergency alerts went to cell phones.

Beshear warned the east and southeast residents of Kentucky that “are alert”, with additional storms expected in the region on Friday.

Severe storms are possible from southeast to the average Atlantic on Friday, with harmful winds, hail and possible tornadoes.
