Trump's administration tells NYC that closing congestion prices before March 21

The Trump administration has ordered the city of New York to end its congestion prices program, the first of its kind in La Nación, on March 21 in a recently published letter.

The Federal Highway Administration said that the Metropolitan Transportation Authority must stop collecting tolls for that date to allow an “tidy cessation.”

He letter It is dated February 20, one day after the United States Department of Transportation said it obtained the federal approval of the Plan after a review requested by President Donald Trump.

New York officials have said that they will not turn off the tolls without a court order.

“We have said that there may be an ordered cessation, which was the phrase that came to us in the letter. I will propose something in the alternative, ordered resistance,” said New York governor Kathy Hochul, during the comments before the MTA Board on Wednesday.

The MTA said it is challenging the reversal of the Trump administration in the Federal Court, looking for a declarative sentence that the DOT measure is not appropriate.

The congestion price plan, which was launched on January 5, charges passenger vehicles $ 9 to access Manhattan below 60 street during peak hours as part of an effort to relieve congestion and raise funds for the city’s public transport system. During the peak hours, small trucks and charter buses are charged $ 14.40 and trucks and tourist buses pay $ 21.60.

Hochul described the early success of the “genuine” and “extraordinary” program in his comments to the MTA Board.

The toll generated almost $ 50 million in revenue in its first month, said the MTA this week.

From January 5 to January 31, the tolls of the Congestion Price Program generated $ 48.66 million, with the net income for that period $ 37.5 million by taking into account the expenses to execute the program, said the MT.

The program is on the way to generate $ 500 million in net income for the end of this year, as initially projected, said the MTA.

The congestion has also “dramatically fallen” since the program came into force, Hochul said last week.
